HVAC Program Overview

Retail Ready Career Center’s HVAC Maintenance Ready Tech Program is designed to set students up for success in the HVAC industry through extensive hands-on experience in a real-world environment.

What is HVAC?

HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. Every modern home and business in America uses heating and air conditioning, there is no exception.

Jobs as HVAC service technicians and installers cannot be outsourced to other countries. We need men and women in our neighborhoods with training and integrity to come to our homes and businesses, and provide home comfort services.

Here is what a typical experience with Retail Ready Career Center might look like:

  1. Enrolling

The first step is to get on the phone with an Admissions Counselor by calling 888-537-6640
This Admissions Counselor is now assigned to you, and will be your point of contact throughout the enrollment process. They will explain the cost of the program, discuss what options you have to fund your tuition and get you in contact with a Financial Aid Counselor if necessary.

During the time in which you are deciding on a method of payment, your Admissions Counselor will also assist you in filling out our enrollment agreement. Once all of these steps have been completed, you are officially enrolled in Retail Ready Career Center. If you’d like an Admissions Counselor to contact you, please fill out the form below and we will contact you as soon as possible.

  2. What Happens Next?

You will be contacted within 3 business days of enrollment by a Student Services representative to begin planning your travel arrangements. Around this same time, you will also receive a phone call from your assigned Job Placement Counselor to get information on your desired area of employment, so that we can begin the job placement process immediately.

  3. Now You’re Here

If you have to fly to Dallas, we will arrange for a car to pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. If you live locally, you can drive to the hotel and check in on the date arranged between you and your Student Services representative. On the morning of Day 1 a bus will pick up everyone from the hotel and bring you to our training facility for breakfast and orientation.

  4. Training

We value hands on experience, so all of our classes begin working in the labs either at the end of Day 1 or on Day 2. During the 6 weeks in which you are here, you will learn the technical skills needed to succeed as an HVAC tech, as well as the soft skills to communicate with the home and business owners you will be servicing.

In order to graduate from our HVAC Maintenance Ready Tech Program, you are required to pass both the IAQ and EPA exams. You will also have the opportunity to become NATE Certified. The program cost includes 1 attempt each at the NATE Core Exam as well as NATE Gas Heat and NATE Heat Pump & AC. If you would like to take any of these exams again, or if you want to take more advanced NATE certification exams, we have a certified NATE proctor on campus to administer these exams for a small fee. Don’t worry, you will be well prepared by your instructors for each of these exams. If you have the desire to succeed and the work ethic to give it your all for these 6 weeks, you can accomplish anything!

  5. Job Placement Assistance

The same Job Placement Counselor who you spoke with prior to arrival will be your counselor for the duration of the program. During week 1 you will film a resume video. This video is a vital component to getting you hired, because it allows contractors to get a feel for who you are as an individual, and adds a personal touch that a paper resume simply can’t provide.

Once we begin sending out videos and resumes, we begin scheduling job interviews. Many of our students graduate employed with an HVAC company, or have promising job interviews already scheduled with contractors who know the quality of the technicians that come out of our program, and want to hire more technicians with the same qualifications. To find out more about the Job Placement Assistance we offer visit our Job Placement Assistance page.

  6. Graduation & Beyond

We welcome and encourage any and all friends and family to attend the graduation ceremony, and celebrate your accomplishment with you. On graduation day, we serve a lunch feast followed up by cake and ice cream for everyone to enjoy together.

Once you head back home, you either begin employment with a new and credible HVAC company, attend your scheduled interviews or continue working with your Job Placement Counselor to find the company that is the perfect fit for you.
